I had the task to organize a fire evacuation
especially for only a certain area in a building.
As ridiculous as it may sound, it was a very good reason
to do so.
Firstly, this is a high-tech facility that
manufactures products under extremely clean and dust free
Terms. With the standard clean room equipment, sinks
Class 10, it is very, very clean indeed. As such, it is very
important thatDust from entering the clean room at
Production conditions. Thus, in the past, all evacuation drills
were carried out just before we had a planned plant shutdown for
Maintenance.
Secondly, in the last few years, if an evacuation
Drill was organized, the administration has been generally
closed, and all workers are using
Opportunity to make their holidays. Virtually no one will
around. Even the production workers willare, with their
Leave if they stopped all the machines and gave
over the plant for shutdown maintenance.

This is our first option. Relying on human communications

foolproof. This option is not foolproof. Someone could argue
that they do not receive the message.
Our second option was to reprogram the fire alarm system to
includes all areas within the clean rooms. This option was a bit
difficult, as some uncertainty about how the alarm bells
were wired.We had to admit that although everything on paper to secure the subscription of as-built drawings, we were not 100% whether to cover the re-programming is not all the alarm bells in the clean rooms or. In addition, it had some refurbishment of the existing building and no one had bothered to test the alarm bell has been done then taken. Thus, this option was also laid to rest.
Our third option was to re-wire the existing bells specially
only for the offices, so that we can trigger only the office
Areas. This seems a pretty good choice, except that the

Thus, we have been able to organize the fire for the evacuation

because the bells were not sounded. All employees
hadevacuation and everything went smoothly.
A potentially huge manufacturing loss was avoided by the adoption of a
simple idea. A workable idea born out of necessity.
